A Song Is A Weapon. So goes the title of a track from The North – the latest stunning offering from Canada’s best kept secret indie institution – STARS. And with those fighting words, STARS are back, having never gone away. Over the course of more than a decade together, STARS have consistently proven themselves adept at producing incisively sharp, beautifully orchestrated pop music. Their sixth album, The North, is no exception. In many ways, it is their finest record to date – a culmination of all they have learned and lost; a record of what it is to love today, of how to live a life in music.

The North finds STARS older, not wiser, still fighting and loving; still making music because now, more than ever, it is in their blood; it is all they know how to do. STARS have survived attacks and success, trends and life; death and drama both. They present here, in The North, plainly and honestly, a document that speaks moments to decades, inches to cascades.

Listen with an open heart. There are rewards in song, always.
Here, they count.
Hey Rosetta!
Hey Rosetta!
Hey Rosetta!’s 2011 album, Seeds was nominated for a Juno and shortlisted for the Polaris prize. After three years of touring Seeds, the St. John’s locals met with producer Marcus Paquin to discuss what was to become of the band's fourth LP, Second Sight. They eventually tracked in Montreal with a clutch of new songs written by frontman Tim Baker - some of them road tested in front of live audiences. But there was no over-arching theme. The time on the road touring Seeds was long - around the US five times, Australia twice, Europe four times, and the vast expansive Canadian highways which inspired some of the concepts on Seeds created a distance between the songwriter and what was to become Second Sight. Hey Rosetta! chose to sail into new waters, to experiment with fresh, contemporary sounds while remaining true to its musical heart. They spent a year in the studio off-and-on and the result is their most expansive work yet - Second Sight will be available in North America on October 21st, 2014
